Prishtina Basic Court on Friday ordered 30 days of detention for a police officer who was arrested the day before on espionage allegations. Bojan Jevtic, an ethnic Serb from the eastern town of Kamenice/Kamenica, is suspected of leaking confidential police information to Serbia’s state security service.

Bekim Kodraliu, the prosecutor investigating the case, told media on Friday that they possess evidence that the suspect “was dealing with illegal activities which violate Kosovo’s law and constitutional order”.

“These are [leaked] documents released by Kosovo Police and which are related to Kosovo’s security and its constitutional order,” Kodraliu said, declining to comment on the documents’ content, calling the case “too sensitive”.

Milos Nikolic, the lawyer for Jevtic, said he had requested house arrest for his client.

“We argued that he will be accessible during the entire process, will positively reply to calls from the authorities, and we have offered a guarantee of 15,000 euros that he will cooperate with the authorities,” Nikolic said.

“He has been serving as a police officer since 2002 at the [Kosovo-Serbia] crossing point of Bela Zemlja [Dheu i Bardhe]. He has not held any higher police grade,” he noted.

Ljubisa Jevtic, the suspect’s brother, told media after the session that he expected Bojan Jevtic to be set free.

“He has been taken mistakenly. He’s a good guy who has honestly performed his duties [as a police officer] and is a parent of three children,” Ljubisa jevtic said.

The prosecution suspects that Jevtic gave information to Serbia’s state security agency, the BIA, on a Kosovo Police operation codenamed “Target”, which was undertaken in September 2023 – a few days after a deadly attack by a group of armed Serbs in which one Kosovo Police officer was killed.
