After returning from the Paris Olympics, Kosovo’s team, including two judoka medallists, were given a hearty reception in Prishtina's main city square on Tuesday evening.
Kosovo’s Olympic team was given a warm welcome on Tuesday evening at Prishtina’s George Bush Square, after they returned from Paris with two medals.
Distria Krasniqi, winner of the silver medal in judo and Laura Fazliu, winner of the bronze, made their way to the podium accompanied by fanfares.
“I feel happy that I have brought Kosovo a second Olympic medal,” Krasniqi said. She won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
“I know that I won’t stop, and I hope we will gather on other occasions to celebrate other successes,” she added.
Kosovo became a member of the International Olympic Committee in 2015 and its judokas have so far won five Olympic medals in three consecutive games, at Rio, Tokyo and Paris.
“All the Olympic team, not only the judo one, but also boxing, athletic and all other sports, continue to work, because good dreams never stop,” Prime Minister Albin Kurti told the team in front of the crowd.
Judo national team coach Driton Kuka said Kosovo had shown the world that “our children have values and virtues”.
“We are a very small country and we have won five Olympic medals so far. We will continue seeking more… Motivation and inspiration among the youth to do more for their country is ever growing,” Kuka said.
