The former head of the NISMA parliamentary group announced that the party will break away from the ‘war faction’ coalition with PDK and AAK in the upcoming legislature.
The Initiative for Kosovo, NISMA, decided to have its own parliamentary group in Kosovo’s next legislature, which will be formed after the June 11 general elections results are made official.
Although NISMA ran in a pre-election coalition together with the Democratic Party of Kosovo, PDK, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, AAK – dubbed PAN – the party has decided to operate as a single parliamentary group in the upcoming legislature.
Valdete Bajrami, head of the NISMA parliamentary group in the last legislature, confirmed that NISMA will operate as a single parliamentary group.
“NISMA will have a larger number of MPs in the upcoming legislature and this clearly shows that NISMA has grown by 40 per cent,” said Bajrami. The Central Election Commission has not announced the official results, but according to the party and unofficial reports, NISMA will be represented with eight MPs.
“The President [of NISMA, Fatmir] Limaj said during the electoral campaign that NISMA will function as a single parliamentary group,” added Bajrami.
AAK Vice President Ahmet Isufi said that the issue has not been discussed between partners and that these decisions will be made after the results are certified.
“Right now we are waiting for the certification of results and for other changes that may occur in the future. It is up to party representatives to make agreements and have one parliamentary group, or every party has their own parliamentary group, but this is not the main issue right now,” Isufi said.
CEC is expected to announce the certified results in the next couple of weeks.
