The external facades of six schools across the Western Balkans were illuminated in blue to mark the International Day of Living Together in Peace. The lightning is part of the campaign “YOUth Inspired by Peace”, which is celebrating successes of the project “Supporting the Western Balkan’s Collective Leadership on Reconciliation: Building Capacity and Momentum for RYCO”.
The schools which were lightened are the Gimnasium “Stojan Cerovic” in Nikšić, the School With Boarding For Children With Hearing & Speech Disabilities “11. Maj” in Jagodina, the Middle school center “Nedžad Ibrišimović” in Ilijaš, “Isa Boletini” secondary school in Vore, “Prenk Jakova” secondary school in Gjakova, and SEPUGS “Vasil Antevski Dren” in Skopje.
Pupils and teachers of these schools are part of RYCO family – they implemented youth exchanges, contributed to the development of methodology for intercultural learning and dialogue and represent the notion that formal education has a role to play in bringing youth together and supporting them in building and sustaining peace in the region.
The project is supported by the United Nations Peace building Fund, implemented by RYCO in partnership with UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF Albania. The project and its results are being promoted through the campaign “YOUth inspired by Peace” which is taking place across the region during May 2021.
