Dua Lipa Visits BIRN’s Reporting House in Prishtina, Praises the Work Showcasing Kosovo’s History

The UK-born Kosovo-Albanian pop star Dua Lipa visited the Reporting House Museum in Prishtina, where she praised the initiative for its portrayal of Kosovo’s history.

UK-born Kosovo-Albanian artist Dua Lipa visited the Reporting House museum in Prishtina with her family on Monday during their stay in Kosovo for the Sunny Hill Festival.  At the museum they were shown artifacts, journalistic footage, and other materials that highlight Kosovo’s struggle and fight for freedom and independence.

During the visit, Dua Lipa expressed her admiration for the museum’s mission, stating:

“You’ve done an incredible job telling Kosovo’s story through this museum.”

Callum Turner, Dua Lipa’s fiance, showed a particular interest in archival footage of British paratroopers scanning Prishtina for landmines in the early days of NATO’s arrival in 1999. Meanwhile, Dua pointed out to him  the prominent Prishtina neighbourhoods featured in the videos.

Jeta Xharra, co-founder of the Reporting House, noted the positive impact of Dua Lipa’s visit and the role her family has played in promoting Kosovo’s image.

“We’ve had an influx of visitors who came for the Sunny Hill Festival and discovered our museum. It’s given us a chance to tell Kosovo’s story to people who might never have come otherwise,” Xharra said.

“Beyond the professionalism demonstrated over these past few days by the team from ‘Republika’ who organised the Sunny Hill Festival-which I attended every night-it’s remarkable how supportive and generous the Lipa family has been toward all of us living and working in Kosovo. They’ve honored us by promoting a modern image of Kosovo, a youth that feels comfortable in its own skin and proud of its history”, Xharra added further.

The festival, founded in 2018 by Dua Lipa and her father Dukagjin, is the largest music festival in Kosovo. It was created with the aim of putting Kosovo on the map with one of the biggest music festivals in Europe.

Dukagjin Lipa expressed his gratitude that the museum stayed open past its regular hours, saying that this visit was made out of deep respect for the work that has gone into establishing it.

Donika Shahini, the journalist who had preserved the childhood notebook of the Jashari children killed in 1998, shared her appreciation.

“It was amazing to see with how much interest, curiosity, and humility Dua listened to my story about the notebook I saved from the Jashari home, which I have kept specifically for this museum”,  she stated.

During the Reporting House tour, Dua and her family were shown ‘Fragments of Survival,’ a powerful exhibition by 18-year-old artist Hussein al-Jerjawi from Gaza, presented by the curator.

Reporting House, produced by BIRN Kosovo, KALLXO, and Prishtina Biennale, is a multi-layered museum dedicated to the memory of the 1998-99 Kosovo war and the country’s struggle for freedom.

Opened in June 2024, the museum features media archives, journalistic work, and contemporary art that examine the war’s causes, consequences, and human impact. Through historical documentation, the museum offers an in-depth reflection on the conflict that marked the end of the 20th century in Europe—from the rise of the Kosovo Liberation Army and the brutal war of 1998–1999 to NATO’s intervention and Kosovo’s eventual declaration of independence in 2008.
