The first team to ever represent Kosovo in the Olympic games attended a ceremonial hand-off of the Kosovo flag on Friday night. During the ceremony, President Hashim Thaci handed over the Kosovo flag to the team’s captain Majlinda Kelmendi, a world champion in judo.
The Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between August 5-21.
Kosovo’s ‘dream team’ is composed of eight athletes who will be competing in various sports. In addition to the captain Kelmendi, who is a strong contender for the gold medal in judo, the team includes Nora Gjakova, Vijona Kryeziu, Rita Zeqiri, Musa Hajdari, Qendrim Guri and Lum Zhaveli, who was not present at the ceremony.
