Is the public kindergarten system in Kosovo good enough? If you are a parent of children at a kindergarten, or you were not able to register your child at a public kindergarten, or cannot afford a private one, tell us all about it.
We are looking for parents from Kosovo who are willing to share their experience of sending their children to kindergartens, considering the low number of public kindergartens in the country and reports of poor conditions, even in private kindergartens.
According to the 2024 census, Kosovo has a population of 1,585,566 people, of whom 153,691 are under six years old and eligible to be registered at kindergartens. According to Ministry of Education data provided to BIRN at the end of January, there are only 67 public kindergartens in the country.
Kosovo Statistics Agency data shows that in the 2022-23 academic year, 30,996 children were registered at kindergartens, which BIRN estimates to be around 20 per cent of the total number of children under six years old.
Here are the key things we want to know:
Have you registered your child/children at a public kindergarten?
Were you happy with the conditions?
Have you considered registering or registered your children at a private kindergarten?
Has the lack of kindergartens affect the advancement of the mother’s career?
