The Basic Court in Ferizaj/Urosevac has approved the prosecution’s request to impose one month of detention on six individuals arrested in connection with the murder of Kosovo Police Sergeant Muhamet Lika.
The Basic Court in Ferizaj/Urosevac ordered one month of detention for six men suspected of orchestrating the murder of Kosovo Police Sergeant Muhamet Lika on April 1 in front of his apartment building in Kacanik. The suspects, including a 17-year-old alleged shooter, are accused of acting in coordination in the murder of a police officer.
The suspects were arrested on April 21 in a large-scale police operation in Kacanik, a town in southern Kosovo.
According to the court’s ruling, the six suspects, known by their initials—H.B., R.M., V.Ç., E.L., Sh.K., and D.G.—are suspected of aggravated murder. They all originate from Kacanik. The prosecution claims that they acted in “coordination and with premeditated intent to kill Sergeant Lika.”
Sergeant Muhamet Lika was shot dead on the night of April 1, 2025, on the staircase of his apartment building in Kacanik as he was returning home from work.
Among the seven individuals arrested during the April 21 operation is a 17-year-old, R.B., who has been identified as the suspected shooter. R.B. is expected to turn 18 in a matter of days.
The Ferizaj/Urosevac Basic Court on Monday ordered a thirty-day detention for R.B., suspected of murdering police officer Muhamet Lika in Kacanik.
KALLXO.com has obtained the detention file, which includes details about the preparation and execution of the crime.
Investigators allege that it took the minor exactly 47 seconds from the moment he entered the residential building until he exited after fatally shooting Lika. Surveillance footage and witness statements suggest that R.B. fled the scene immediately after the shooting, heading toward a nearby establishment where he reunited with suspect R.M a former member of the Kosovo Security Force, FSK. According to the file, witnesses heard someone shout “Bravo, run!” as they fled the scene.
The Prosecution also revealed that Sergeant Lika had been under surveillance in the days leading up to his murder. The group—comprising R.B. and the six adult suspects—allegedly followed him closely using multiple vehicles and continuous tracking.
The file further discloses that the minor, R.B., was already known to law enforcement.
He had previously been sentenced to an educational institutional measure for a rape conviction. However, he never served the sentence and was listed as wanted under an active arrest warrant, which remained in effect at the time of the murder.
Following the court session in Ferizaj/Urosevac, where the detention measure was decided, defense attorneys for suspects R.M. and D.G. stated that their clients deny any involvement in the killing.
R.M’s attorney, Musa Konxheli—appointed as a public defender—claimed that his client had “no part in the planning or execution of the murder.” Konxheli emphasised that Murati “was with his fiancée at the time the murder occurred and was not with the group.”
Attorney Fehmije Gashi-Bytyçi, who represents D.G, emphasised that the case has not been linked to any religious ideology, contrary to some public speculation.
She argued that the prosecution’s claim that her client aided the shooter lacks concrete evidence.
In a statement to the media on Monday, Ferizaj’s Chief Prosecutor, Burim Çerkini, stated that initial findings indicate the motive behind the murder is linked to Lika’s work as a police officer.
“The main motive is related to his work in the Kosovo Police,” he said.
Kosovo Police Director Gazmend Hoxha also addressed the press, revealing that the suspects were previously arrested for their involvement in the arson attack on the Kacanik courthouse in March 2024.
“Our sergeant was on official duty when these cases occurred and then worked in support of Police investigations, with the aim of shedding light on previous cases,” Hoxha said, claiming that “we have managed to secure evidence, testimony that links this criminal group to the murder of our sergeant. Some of them have had criminal pasts, have been involved in previous cases, and have been linked to extremist tendencies. They are suspicious, dangerous persons who we suspect have committed this murder and have planned and executed it.”
Hoxha explained that one of the suspects who was arrested on Monday is the son of a border police officer.
“In order to verify every possibility, the official weapon was seized,” during the raid of the suspect’s house, to clarify “whether it was accidentally used in this case or other cases,” Hoxha said.
“Our sergeant was on duty during those events and worked actively in the investigations to uncover the perpetrators,” Hoxha said, adding, “we now have substantial evidence and testimonies that tie this group to his murder. Some of them have criminal histories and are suspected of ties to extremist ideologies. These are dangerous individuals who, we believe, orchestrated and carried out this killing.”
