Average prices were 0.9 per cent higher in January than in the last month of 2022.
In the last two years, many countries of the world have faced rising inflation. Kosovo was also faced with a price increase.
The Kosovo Statistics Agency, KAS, has clarified that the overall harmonized index of consumer prices was higher by an average of 0.9 per cent in January 2023 compared to December 2022.
By comparison with the same month in 2022, the inflation rate in January was 12.1 per cent. Kosovo ended 2022 with an inflation rate of 11.6 per cent according to KAS.
The increase in price in vegetables was 10.4 per cent, electricity 3.1 per cent, tobacco 2.6 per cent, goods and services for the usual maintenance of the household economy 2.2 per cent and trees 1.9 per cent.
In financial services, prices rose 1.8 per cent, in household appliances 1.8 per cent, recreational and cultural services 1.6 per cent, other services related to personal transportation equipment 1.6 per cent, milk, cheese and eggs 1.5 per cent, spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment 1.5 per cent, bread and cereals 1.2 per cent.
According to KAS, prices in food products rose by 0.8 per cent, purchase of vehicles by 0.8 per cent, outpatient services by 0.6 per cent, home maintenance and repair by 0.2 per cent, coffee, tea and cocoa by 0.1 per cent.
KAS said prices of oils and fats rose 26.0 per cent, bread and cereals 21.2 per cent, goods and services for the usual maintenance of the household economy 20.5 per cent, meat 18.9 per cent, sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets 18.9 per per cent and food products 16.5 per cent.
In home maintenance and repairs prices rose 16.3 per cent, electricity 15.4 per cent, fuel and lubricants for personal transport equipment 13.3 per cent, vegetables 10.8 per cent, home and garden tools and equipment 10.7 per cent, equipment maintenance and repair personal transport equipment 10.6 per cent, spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment 9.9 per cent, social protection 9.5 per cent, furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings 8.8 per cent, gas 7.7 per cent, goods and equipment other recreational activities, gardens and pets 7.6 percent.
Flour, bread, beef and chicken, eggs and cooking oil are just some of the basic products whose average price increased markedly.
