Prosecutor’s Office and the police have destroyed a drug plantation during an action in a mountainous area of the municipality of Istog.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the Prosecutor’s Office of Peja and the Kosovo Police started an action by raiding several locations in several municipalities of Kosovo.
Police have since announced that, during the action, 11 people suspected in connection with the case were accompanied to the police station of whom six were detained.
The Prosecutor’s Office in Peja said the raid was carried out in 13 different locations.
“The Prosecutor’s Office … is today carrying out an action in five municipalities and 13 locations are being raided [and] a suspected cannabis plantation has been secured, and weapons, valuables and other things have been seized among other suspicious items,” the spokesperson of the Prosecutor’s Office in Peja, Shkodran Nikçi, told BIRN.
In the village of Drenjë, in Istog, police identified and destroyed a plantation planted with narcotic plants, suspected to be cannabis.
The operation was supported by the special units of the Kosovo Police. The action took place in Peja, Klina, Istog, Skenderaj and Mitrovica.
During the police operation, in both regions in Peja and South Mitrovica, seven weapons were confiscated, as were about 70 cartridges, 92 suspected cannabis plants, over 25 grams of cocaine, 5,500 euros, six phones, as well as documents.
Kosovo’s penal code stipulates that anyone who, without authorization, produces, cultivates, processes, extracts or prepares substances or preparations that are declared as narcotics can be punished with a fine and imprisonment from one to 10 years.
