A truck loaded with documents from the Palace of Justice has been stopped at a border crossing while attempting to leave Kosovo.
A truck, which was allegedly loaded with documents from the Palace of Justice, has been stopped at a border crossing while trying to leave Kosovo. According to Kallxo sources, as soon as the Customs officers noticed the truck and its contents, they notified the Kosovo Police, which in turn informed the State Prosecutor.
The case has been confirmed by Imer Beka, the head prosecutor in Prishtina.
“We have been notified by the Police and Customs that a truck with Bulgarian license plates has been stopped at the border and it contains official documents from the Palace of Justice. Apparently, the truck was loaded at the Palace, where their [the building’s developers] headquarters seem to be located, and was supposed to take these documents to Bulgaria,” Beka said.
Head prosecutor Beka says that the police are still investigating the case and they suspect that the documents are related to the construction of the Palace and the continuous issues with the building.
Supposed to house a number of courts and with its development costing more than 30 million euro, the Palace is one of the most expensive EU funded projects in Kosovo.
Numerous problems with the building’s construction have appeared since its inauguration last year.
In the past, officials have complained about the building’s overall dysfunctionality, meanwhile the poor construction has resulted in floods damaging case files. Reports of staff feinting due to lack of air are also not unheard of. Due to these issues, it is suspected that the truck’s goal might have been to eliminate proof.
Nobody noticed the truck was being loaded with documents, since construction is ongoing at the Palace. The police are still conducting an investigation to ascertain the type of documents found in the truck.
Another truck is suspected to have left the Palace of Justice, but there isn’t any conclusive proof, informed the prosecutor. The chauffeur of the truck is a Bulgarian taxi driver who was paid to deliver the documents.
