Following a consultation with political parties, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci set the date for regular municipal elections to be held in autumn.
The next municipal elections in Kosovo will be held this October, a press release from the communications office of the Kosovo Presidency informed.
“Based on Article 4 of Law No.0.3/L–072 on Local Elections, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, after consulting political parties, President Thaci decided that elections for self-governing local bodies will be held on October 22, 2017,” the statement reads.
Thaci instructed the Central Election Committee, CEC, to undertake all necessary actions for organizing and holding municipal elections in accordance with his decision and the the legislation in effect.
Prior to the decision, Thaci met with representatives from most political parties on Wednesday morning to discuss the upcoming municipal elections. Representatives agreed on the proposed date.
