Reports on Vetevendosje’s internal rifts continue with Visar Ymeri and Dardan Sejdiu resigning from their party leadership positions this week.
An internal dispute within Vetevendosje, leaked to the public last month, continues as two party members, Visar Ymeri and Dardan Sejdiu, resign from their party leadership positions.
Party leader and member of the party presidency Ymeri resigned from these duties on Tuesday, January 2, saying that his resignation from leadership positions was “irrevocable.” Ymeri will remain in the party itself and will remain to be a member of parliament.
He added that the party’s “foundations started to shake” last year, and that some party members faced a defamation campaign on behalf of Albin Kurti, Kosovo media reported.
A flurry of social media posts in defense of Ymeri ensued, with some activists claiming that he was one of the main reasons for the party’s growth in the last election.
Two days later, Ymeri was joined by Kosovo MP Dardan Sejdiu, also the former Deputy Mayor of Prishtina.
“For some time we have been dealing with a problem within the Vetevendosje movement, a problem about which I’ve been informed in different time periods and only partly, but that recently has reached an increased intensity and damaging media coverage,” Sejdiu wrote in his resignation letter, released by local media.
He also said that his resignation from leadership positions was irrevocable.
“I’ve decided to irrevocably resign from all leadership positions in Vetevendosje: the post of the first deputy president of the movement, my seat in the movement’s presidency, and as a member of the General Assembly,” Sejdiu said, adding that he was still a member of the party and will continue to be a member of parliament.
