Kosovar leaders condemn Istanbul attack, send their condolences

Kosovo’s President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of the Assembly sent their condolences to the Turkish people and their leaders after the terrorist attack in Istanbul.

Last night, three gunmen attacked Istanbul’s Ataturk international airport, killing 36 people and wounding 147. The terrorists were armed with Kalashnikov rifles and detonated suicide vests when police attempted to stop them. Turkish officials suspect that ISIS is behind the attack, though similarly to the March 19 suicide bombing in downtown Istanbul, no group has taken responsibility yet.

Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci sent a telegram of sympathy to the Turkish President Recep Taip Erdogan condemning the terrorist attacks.

“Nothing can justify the use of violence and the murder of innocent people,” wrote Thaci in his letter.

Kosovo’s PM Isa Mustafa also expressed his sympathy for the victims in Istanbul via Twitter.

The speaker of Kosovo Assembly Kadri Veseli took to Facebook and expressed his sympathy, condemning the attack and affirming that Kosovo stands with Turkey in the war on terror.

“Last night’s terrorist attack in the Istanbul airport, which killed tens of innocent citizens and wounded many more, is not only an attack on the security of the Turkish state, but aims to create an effect of insecurity on a global scale,” wrote Veseli on Facebook.

“We empathize with the pain of families of innocent victims and stand beside our ally Turkey, together with the entire democratic world in the war against terrorism – this global evil,” he concluded.

Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is on a state visit to Turkey and landed only minutes after the attack at the Ataturk Airport, also expressed his sympathy on Twitter.

“A deep sorrow for the loss of innocent lives in another barbarian act done by those who have no God, no hope, nor a place amongst people!,” wrote Rama.
