Lustrio: Al fresco Italian in Dragodan

I don’t usually venture to the far side of Dragodan for lunch or dinner, but in the past two weeks I have visited Lustrio twice and left satisfied both times, with the feeling of casual but elegant home cooking.

My Paulaner Hefeweizen beer was accompanied by a chilled glass, but I was disappointed to be at yet another restaurant in Prishtina which has locally-bottled still water, but serves Pellegrino instead of one of many fine sparkling waters from Kosovo.

My two meals at Lustrio have left me with the impression that the specials really shine: on my first trip I tried the special, a beet and goat cheese salad on a bed of arugula, which was fantastic. More recently, I tried as an appetizer the bruschetta with caramelized onions and goat cheese. The bread was perfectly firm and crispy while the onions and cheese melted in my mouth. My dining partner had a simple salad with arugula, parmesan cheese and tomatoes. On an earlier visit I also tried the breaded asparagus appetizer. The dough was great but the inedible bottom portions of the asparagus were not removed, making for a bit of awkward eating.

For the main course, I once again selected the special: cannelloni stuffed with ricotta cheese and spinach. They were perfectly cooked and the sauce was light but filling.

My dining partner selected the spaghetti with olive oil and peperoncini, which was lightly oiled and perfectly spiced with garlic and basil.

The portions were just the right size, not overly filling but not paltry–leaving just enough room for dessert! I selected the daily special, creme caramel, which came out perfectly wobbly, not too sweet, and melted in my mouth. I also commandeered my dining partner’s succulent chocolate souffle, a rich blend of gooey goodness!

The interior of Lustrio has new hardwood floors and elegant carpets, though the selection of music inside is not appetizing. Outside, the view is dominated by towering new apartment blocks, with not a lot of green, but it was nice to watch a group of children playing.

For a full three course meal, with appetizers, main dishes and dessert and drinks for two coming in at 23 Euros, it was very reasonably priced. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a casual night’s supper with high calibre food.
